DESCRIPTION:Canadians love hiking… and what’s not to love? Fresh air\, exercise\, beautiful scenery\, a budget-friendly workout in every season. Hiking makes sense! \nIn celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday and our country’s love of hiking\, we’re running a contest from February 15 – April 15\, 2017.  \n \nOur 150 Great Canadian Hikes contest asks Canadians to submit their favorite places to hike (within Canada). \nELIGIBLE ENTRIES SHOULD INCLUDE: \n1. The name of the Canadian hiking trail or location you are submitting/nominating.\n2. A photo of the destination entered and a link (if available) for more information.\n3. Your contact information (if submitted by email).\n4. You must also agree that once submitted\, your entry becomes the property of Urban Poling to use as desired (on our website\, social media\, etc.) \nBased on the entries received and those selected for inclusion\, Urban Poling will create a list of 150 Great Canadian Hikes following the contest that will be published on our website and made available to encourage hiking as a terrific\, four-season form of fitness. We will of course also be promoting the benefits of using our poles for a full-body workout on the trails! SUMMARY:March Break Camp at the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre
DESCRIPTION:The Rouge Valley Conservation Centre is excited to offer children ages 5-12 the opportunity to join our March Break Day Camp program from March 13 &#8211; 17\, 2017. Children will have an exciting and fun filled week exploring nature and learning about our daily themes with our trained staff. \nDates: \nCamp is offered on a weekly and daily registration basis from March 13 &#8211; 17\, 2017.  \nTime: \nCamp runs from 9 am &#8211; 4 pm. Extended care is offered from 8:30-9:00am and 4:00 &#8211; 4:30pm for an additional $30/child for the week or $6/day/child.\n \nRegistration fees:\n \nCost per child is $250 for the whole week or $50 per child for single days. Register before February 15\, 2017 and pay $220/child. Discounts are available for siblings enrolling on the same day(s) or for the whole week. SUMMARY:River Institute Tackles March Break Boredom by Mixing Science into the Great Outdoors
DESCRIPTION:CORNWALL\, ON.  &#8211; The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences is tackling March Break boredom with a week full of natural fun and science at Cooper Marsh Visitor and Education Centre in South Lancaster.  From March 13th to the 17th\, this unique day camp will provide children\, aged 6 to 11\, with hands on opportunities to experience science and nature up close and personal.  Campers have the option of choosing to sign up for individual daily themed sessions or they can register for an entire week of non-stop fun and discovery. \nCristina Charette\, Education Programmer at the River Institute says\, “It is all about combining nature\, science\, and discovery in the great outdoors.  Each day is a new adventure with activities led by local scientists and naturalists”.  She adds\, “Cooper Marsh with its trails and Visitor Centre is the perfect location to spend March Break.” \n\nMarch 13th &#8211;  Feathered Friends\n\nBird is the word! Discover the fascinating world of birds. Find out where feathered friends go in the winter\, how they fly\, and what birds can be found in your own back yard. \n\nMarch 14th &#8211; Super Scientists\n\nFuture biologists\, chemists\, and ecologists are invited to become super scientists for a day by conducting experiments that are non-stop fun as well as educational. \n\nMarch 15th &#8211; Microscope Mania\n\nCooper Marsh campers look at the world the way a scientist see it – up close. The smallest objects can tell us big things. Bring along the tiniest items you have and see them in a brand new way – under the microscope. \n\nMarch 16th &#8211;  Eco Arts\n\nCooper Marsh is a natural work of art so campers are invited to become inspired by the great outdoors.  Imagination and nature are mixed with a little paint\, pencils\, wood\, music\, photography\, and inspiration for a day that celebrates arts and nature. \n\nMarch 17th &#8211;  Planet Protectors\n\nOur Planet Earth needs protecting. DESCRIPTION:Discovery Science and Nature Drop-in at OPG Visitor Centre this March Break \n \nCornwall &#8211;  The Ontario Power Generation Visitor Centre in Cornwall will be a hub for science and nature for the entire family this March Break from March 13 through March 17 from 10 am to 12:30 pm.  Through a partnership between OPG and the River Institute\, free drop-in sessions will be led by a team of local scientists\, naturalists\, and volunteers. Designed to be fun as well as interactive\, “Discovery Science and Nature” is back by popular demand\, following up on last year’s program that introduced a wide range of interactive activities to children and visitors of all ages.  OPG’s Visitor Centre will play host to “Science and Nature Stations” that feature experiments\, arts and crafts\, plants\, animals\, and displays all focussing on discovery.  Visitors will leave each session with take away items that highlight the theme of the day. \nSome very special guests have also been invited to join in on the fun.  Matt Ellerbeck  from “Save Our Salamanders” will bring along his colourful cast of live critters on Wednesday morning and Dr. Brian Hickey will be all about bats and bat houses on Thursday. On Friday\, March 17th the Visitor Centre goes green with local artist and environmentalist Jacqueline Milner who will lead a “make it and take it” nature arts and crafts workshop. \n“We are very grateful to the OPG and the Visitor Centre for our ongoing partnership with respect to science. In particular\, this program provides a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to be engaged by science as well as nature\,” said Jeff Ridal\, Executive Director of the River Institute. \nThis year’s program coordinator Josh Filion from the River Institute adds\, “It’s fun for the education team from the River Institute to be able see families come together and learn about science and nature in a hands on learning location like the Visitor Centre.” \nThe River Institute Science and Nature Discovery Science Team will be on hand at the Visitor Centre from 10 am to 12:30 pm on March 13\, 14\, 15\, 16\, and 17th.  OPG St. Lawrence River Power Development Visitor Centre is located at 2500 2nd Street.
