SUMMARY:Annual GREAT CANADIAN SHORELINE CLEANUP at Long Point Beach
DESCRIPTION:Join Nature’s Calling Environmental Education at the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup! \n \nRoll up your sleeves and lend a hand cleaning up the beaches of Long Point. The TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a national conservation initiative that allows all Canadians to have a positive impact on their local environment. If we’re lucky we’ll see a “Monarch tree” – a tree where Monarchs congregate and wait for favourable winds to start their long journey south to Mexico. Meet at the parking lot across from The Causeway Restaurant. Free event open to all. \n

SUMMARY:Birds of Prey Fly in to Cornwall’s OPG Visitor Centre
DESCRIPTION: \nCORNWALL\, ON – A fun filled afternoon awaits as the creatures that live in our local St. Lawrence River watershed come alive when the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences and Ontario Power Generation celebrate the end of summer with some high flying adventure for the entire family. \nOn Saturday\, September 10\, between noon and 4 pm the St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre in Cornwall plays host to raptors (of the flying variety) when they take centre stage as Falcon Ed bring in their beautiful birds of prey for “Animal Mania”. The entire family is promised an enjoyable session at OPG when it opens its doors and grounds to a variety of critter connected activity. If it has fur\, feathers\, or fins\, it is on the afternoon agenda. \nAlong with the large birds of prey from Falcon Ed’s demonstration team and the interactive presentations from the River Institute’s Education Team and local Conservation Education Officer\, Art Gamble\, from Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry\, will be on hand with a very furry display. Event organizer from the River Institute\, Jeff Filion says\, “We have planned this afternoon for everyone who is curious about local wildlife.” He adds\, “Bringing in the Falcon Ed birds of prey demonstration is a rare opportunity to see these awe inspiring birds up close.” \nFamily workshops are free of charge and the OPG Visitor Centre also offers displays and interactive exhibits that describe the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project construction story and its effects on the nearby communities. Visitors can also learn and observe how OPG safely generates electricity at its nuclear\, thermal and hydro generating stations located across Ontario. Visit www.opg.com/stlawrencevisitorcentre for details\, or call 613- 932-4563 ext. 3523. The OPG St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre is located at 2500 B Second Street West\, Cornwall \nFor more details and information about St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences and its programming visit www.riverinstitute.ca or follow us on Facebook and Twitter. \n \n– 30 – \nContact: \nKaren Douglass Cooper \nCommunications / Community Outreach Officer \nSt. Lawrence River Institute of \nEnvironmental Sciences \n2 St. Lawrence Drive \nCornwall\, ON K6H 4Z1 \nkcooper@riverinstitute.ca \nwww.riverinstitute.ca \n(613) 936-6620 (ext.229) \n
