DESCRIPTION:Focus on Nature is proud to announce the opening\, on March 1st\, 2016 of Emerging Nature\, a photography exhibit by sixty young photographers who have participated in Focus on Nature camps and school workshops. \n \nSelected from tens of thousands of photos taken by students over the past 18 months\, these final sixty were chosen by our volunteer judges as having special merit. Young people see the world differently than adults and these remarkable images capture their fascination with the natural world in interesting and delightful ways. \n“This exhibit reveals the importance of a healthy child-nature connection. SUMMARY:St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences: March Break Camp
DESCRIPTION:River Institute Tackles March Break Boredom by Mixing Science into the Great Outdoors  \nCORNWALL\, ON.  &#8211; The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences is tackling March Break boredom with a week full of natural fun and learning at Cooper Marsh Visitor and Education Centre in South Lancaster.  From March 14th to the 18th\, this unique day camp will provide children\, aged 6 to 11\, with hands on opportunities to experience science and nature up close and personal.  Campers have the option of choosing to sign up for individual daily themed sessions or they can register for an entire week of non-stop fun and discovery. \nCristina Charette\, Education Programmer at the River Institute says\, “It is all about combining nature\, science\, and discovery in the great outdoors.  Each day is a brand new adventure with activities led by local scientists and naturalists”.  She adds\, “Cooper Marsh with its wonderful Visitor Centre is just the perfect venue for this Camp.” \n\nMarch 14th &#8211;  Mad Scientist \n\nFuture biologists\, chemists\, and ecologists are invited to become mad scientists for a day by conducting experiments that are non-stop fun as well as educational. \n\nMarch 15th &#8211;  Planet Protectors \n\nPlanet earth needs protecting. Campers find out all about reducing\, re-using\, recycling\, and composting as well as learn all about the plants and animals in Ontario that need our protection. \n\nMarch 16th &#8211; Nature Nut\n\nCampers are encouraged to explore the great outdoors by starting their own nature collection.  Young naturalists are encouraged to create a journal of their finds.  Opportunities are also provided to examine natural treasures under the microscope. \n\nMarch 17th &#8211; Wild for Wildlife\n\nHow do animals survive through different seasons?  What do their tracks and scat look like?  Wildlife detectives learn how to track some of our local fascinating furry friends.  Find out how they live and where they call home. \n\nMarch 18th &#8211; Arts Across the Marsh\n\nCooper Marsh is a natural work of art so campers are invited to become inspired by the great outdoors.  Imagination and nature are mixed with a little paint\, pencils\, wood\, photography\, and inspiration in a day that celebrates arts and nature. \nFor more information and registration details visit the River Institute website here\, or call 613-936-6620. \n \n
