The Great Migratory Walk

October 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Autumn is a busy and wondrous time as migratory species prepare for their long and challenging journey ahead to their destinations. Some species take flight and others swim upstream to spawn. On this FREE guided walk you’ll look for winged friends who are embarking on their journey and salmon in the Don River who are migrating upstream to spawn.

Join leaders John Wilson from Lost Rivers, Christine Yu and Chris Edge from the TRCA, Evergreen and friends on a guided walk through the Don Valley. You’ll begin at Evergreen Brick Works and walk along the Bayview multi-use lane towards Pottery Road Bridge, where you’ll look for salmon swimming upstream and evidence of birds on their way south. You’ll wrap up our walk back at Evergreen Brick Works.

The actual timing of when salmon migrate is largely dependent on weather patterns (including rainfall and temperature). The question of ‘when’ is largely up to the salmon, so cross your fingers and toes that they choose to be active in migration during your walk/ride!
